And Justice For All. That’s the last line of the US Pledge of Allegiance. But who shall ensure that justice does always prevail? Our court system serves that purpose. And here in the State of California that court system will be headed for the very first time by a Pilipina! Yes, a Pinay, a daughter of humble farm workers has just been nominated by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to be the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court! Now, read that carefully. She wasn’t appointed merely to be a member, another justice, she has been nominated to be the Chief Justice! She will lead the Supreme Court. She is also a native born daughter of my home town, Sacramento California.
According to the LA Times, she had this to say, “I have had the distinct pleasure of being a municipal court judge, a superior court judge and an appellate court justice,” she said. “As a jurist, woman and a Filipina, I am extremely grateful for the trust Gov. Schwarzenegger has placed in me. I hope to show young people what they can achieve if they follow their dreams and reach for their full potential.” To read the entire LA Times article please click the following link;
